Alt Hist – changes to Submission Policy

Alt Hist’s submission policy for fiction has begun to creak a little bit. I have realized that I haven’t been clear enough about what we’re looking for. To that end I have updated the submissions policy for fiction. Here’s the new policy:

Fiction submitted:

1. Must be a short piece of fiction – under 10,000 words.
2. Must be either historical fiction, alternate history, or historical fantasy.
3. Must be a well written character based story rather than an exercise in ‘what if …’
4. Must not be simultaneously submitted to another publication.
5. Must be an original work that has not been published elsewhere.

If anyone has any questions please let me know – it will be a sure sign that I need to refine things a bit more!

We have a new Online Submissions System

Provided by submishmash Alt Hist’s new online submission system will allow us to manage the large number of submissions that have already started to come in. All you need to do is to fill out a form and upload your submission. You will then get an email response from us to say that we have received your submission.

If you do have any problems with the system at all then please let us know.

Alt Hist added to Duotrope’s Digest

I’m happy to report that Alt Hist has now been added to Duotrope’s Digest as a fledgling market.

Duotrope’s Digest is a great resource for anyone looking for short fiction markets (as well as poetry and novels actually). I use it all the time for my own work as it has an excellent Submissions Tracker and a very comprehensive database of markets.

As a result of our listing I’m now looking forward to some short story submissions hitting our email address soon. If you have anything that you think might be appropriate please send it to
